Tishman Construction served as Owner's Representative for the Fire Station Construction Portfolio for the Public Building Commission of Chicago.
The four new fire stations are part of Mayor Daley’s Neighborhoods Alive 21 program that will enable Chicago to move past reactive repair and to embark on a comprehensive plan to rebuild or replace its oldest firehouses - some of which were constructed as early as 1873.
The prototypical designs for the new fire stations contain approximately 18,000 square feet of new space and include state-of-the-art emergency communications systems. The firehouses were designed and built for LEED® certification; three achieved Silver and one achieved Gold. All of the projects include such items as solar thermal domestic water heating systems, green roofs, drought-tolerant landscaping and on-site storm water retention.
